Do You Think You Can Build
This?
I'm always looking for a better way, whether it's improving upon
what someone else has done, or just making more of the same for
cheaper. It's
not hard to immerse yourself in the sport you love. This is just
another method of immersion. Build it yourself.
I won't lie to you. This project is a bit involved, but really
only in the materials gathering process and the time it takes
to fabricate. However, not impossible for the novice welder. It
was actually my first fabrication project for my Lincoln 140 welder.
Bending the platform into the octogon was a challenge, but I didn't
waste any metal! I did purchase a bender, but I don't see any
reason why you couldn't commision a weld shop for this. Figuring
out the angles was the toughest part--I was never good at geometry.
Tools for this project, apart from the welder, included a miter
saw with metal blade, 4" hand grinder with metal grinding
and cutting blades, a pipe bender, clamps, a drill with metal
bits (I actually used two multi-bits), and an angle tool. I cranked
out 5 of these in three weekends.
Like the wood projects I sell, this project is very rewarding
once completed. I harvested this 225lb wild boar from my new stand
in November, 2008. You can reap the same success!
